Different plays in poker

The plays in poker are categorized into certain types. Some players just learn one, or prefer to master one of these poker plays, but the more successful players are the ones who can do all of these plays. These plays are called slow playing, position plays, isolation plays, drawing plays, check-raise plays and aggressive plays.

Slow playing is done in poker by calling when you have a good hand instead of raising. You deceive other players at the poker table into thinking that you have a bad hand, that way, they will want to scare you by raising. By the time it is your turn again, you may raise or just call again. The important matter is that you have baited them, and now because they have raised, they will think twice about folding because they have already put a lot in the pot. You will get more money by doing this than just by raising the first time you get.

Position plays are done with much consideration about your position at the betting round. poker players who bet first have the opportunity of scaring their opponents by raising a lot. They could also just call or check if they have a good hand to bluff their opponents. Generally, poker players who get to bet first can dictate the pace of the game. On the other end, players at the poker table who get to bet last have the opportunity of seeing the others' actions. In that way, they have more basis for their action.

Isolation plays are done by raising a lot so that the other poker players will fold. Just be careful in doing isolation plays, other may sense that you just want them out of the round, and that you really don't have good cards. When that happens, then they will call or even raise you. Therefore, you have failed to isolate them.

Drawing plays are done by calling or checking so that you can see what will be drawn next. Poker players do this when they are expecting a card to complete their hand. This is risky because if that card does not turn out, he or she may definitely lose.

The check-raise play is another form of deception. The first player to bet checks intead of raises the bet even if he or she has a great hand. This is because he or she wants others not to fold, he or she wants them to be in the game for a bigger pot. He or she then hopes that another player would raise so that he or she could re-raise.

The aggressive play is the one that brings most of the action at the poker table. An aggressive poker player raises and reraises as often as he could.
